“Make It So!”
The ONLY possible future for humanity is to migrate to Plant Based Nutrition.
Even Captain Kirk and Picard must have been Plant Based.
Many of us just love Star Trek and most/all of it’s offshoots. Star Wars is an amazing saga of futuristic science fiction and has made million$ at the box-office. How many people think about what they ate on those star ships. What did they eat at “Moon Base Alpha”? Did you ever see a bunch of cow pens, slaughter houses on these star ships, how about on “Deep Space Nine”?
NASA has already determined that only a vegan diet will work both for the trip to Mars and for the outpost on Mars itself. How many Big Mac’s have you seen on the International Space Station? The future dietary needs for humanity have long, but quietly, been presented in these movies for decades. Little did you know that Buck Rogers was no doubt vegan!
Raising animals for food is just inefficient, costly and terribly messy, dirty and contaminates the surrounding area. Slaughter is dirty, messy and smells to high heaven as do the animal pens. I mean, where do you put all that cow/pig shit? Recycle it? How about all that noxious methane; guess you could add that to the dilithium chamber for an acceleration boost? Better ask Jordi La Forge. Not sure what they ate on Memory Alpha but I doubt it was sirloin steak.
No, the future of humanity, if we are to continue, must be focused on plant based nutrition. In Metamorphosis, when Captain Kirk was talking to “The Campion” she said “The Man must continue!”. You didn’t see a bunch of pigs, goats and cows wandering around. Zefram Cochrane took off in a space ship to die so certainly didn’t have a stable of animals, feed and water on board when he crashed on Gamma Canaris.
Plants can be grown in space, in microgravity. The Vegetable Production System (Veggie) on the International Space Station, is a deployable plant growth unit capable of producing crops to provide the crew with a palatable, nutritious, and safe source of fresh food and a tool to support relaxation and recreation and environmental oxygen. The Veggie provides lighting and nutrient delivery, but utilizes the cabin environment for temperature control and as a source of carbon dioxide to promote growth. Future Mars colonies won’t be transporting large stables of animals to feed the Mar’s colony. No, they will deploy ships with SEEDS, so easy to transport and you can hold a year’s supply of potential food in the palm of your hand!
So, if you think about, the real future of the Human Race is Plant Based Nutrition. We are running out of space to grow animals for food. We spend more resources in feed, medicines and land to feed animals plants to eat just so we can eat them. Eliminating the middle-animal that processes plants into food is cheaper, healthier and way cleaner! Just grow Plants and eat them directly. All that wasted farmland to grow animal feed can be redirected to grow Human Food. Those forests destroyed to make room for animals can be replanted with trees to grow fruit.
Just think about the massive resources spent, worldwide, to house, raise, feed, slaughter, package, and transport animal derived ‘food’ to market. Animal factory farms are one of the biggest polluters of ground water, rivers and streams; all that shit and piss has to go someplace and cows/pigs don’t use septic tanks.
Plant Foods can be grown about anywhere. On your patio, in a green house, on roof-top gardens in cities, vacant lots or on a local farm. Transportation to your market is easy, close and quick so food is fresh. You can grow much of your food if you have a back yard or patio. Just a few pennies for seeds can supply much of your food to augment your diet. Sprouting seeds is not only fun and nutritious but is a cheap/delicious way to supplement your diet.
There are so many ways to provide food for you and your family that doesn’t pollute and actually helps clean the air instead of contributing to more air pollution. Plants PRODUCE Oxygen and Eat carbon dioxide. Animals fart methane and shit waste that must be disposed of but usually just pollutes the planet. Growing plants takes WAY less water than raising/producing animals for food. Here are some interesting tidbits:
· Animal Agriculture is responsible for 18% of greenhouse gas emissions; more than the combined exhaust from ALL transportation.
· Livestock and their byproducts account for at least 32,000 million tons of CO2 per year; that is 51% of ALL worldwide greenhouse gas emissions.
· Cows produce 150 billion gallons of methane per day and 65% of all human-related emissions of nitrous oxide.
· Animal Agriculture consumes from 34 to 76 trillion gallons of water annually. Fracking only uses about 70 billion gallons annually.
· Feed crops for livestock consumes 56% of all water used in the USA.
· More than 2,500 gallons of water are needed to produce 1 pound of beef and it takes 14 to 16 months of care and feeding before a cow can be slaughtered for meat.
Next time you watch a Star Wars movie or an old Star Trek film, THINK about this and what you are doing to yourselves and Our Planet. Think how much healthier you could be if you reduced/eliminated animal foods from your diet. You will be a healthier person and the planet will benefit. Grow your food, raise your kids healthier. Who knows who will be the next Obi Wan Kenobi?
Live Long and Prosper!
